IT APPEARS THAT HOLLY IS NOT TOO FOND OF THE KITTIES. BECAUSE OF THIS, HOLLY HAD TO BE MOVED FROM HER CURRENT FOSTER HOME AND NOW NEEDS A FOSTER HOME! SHE HAS REALLY COME OUT OF HER SHELL AND IS SUCH A SWEET GIRL THAT HAS COME A LONG WAY ALREADY IN SUCH A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME. PLEASE CONTACT US IMMEDIATELY IF YOU CAN FOSTER HOLLY!

HollyHolly

Holly was a little girl on the edge of death when AWF finally got a hold of her! Picked up as a stray, Holly was close to death, as it was found she had Pyometra (which is comparable to Appendicitis in humans and left untreated will kill a dog very quickly). Holly had to have emergency surgery to remove the Pyometra and while the vets were fixing this problem, it was found that Holly had a 4lb tumor that needed to be removed from her uterus. Holly is extremely lucky because her days would have been limited (she very well may have only had hours). Along with these problems, Holly was so thin that you could see every bone in her body. So, Holly is now in the loving care of a foster home where she is learning the ropes of love and security. Since Holly has come to us, she is the poster pup for the journey of a rescue dog. We're so glad and feel so lucky we were able to come to Holly's rescue! We are unsure about Holly's breeding, but she looks like a small Chesapeake Bay Retriever or a Chocolate Lab mix. Somebody really hurt Holly's spirit; she is so scared, shy, timid and nervous. When she came to us, she did not know how to go up and down steps, but now she does! She also only liked the male dogs in her foster home just fine, but did not want to make friends with the female. Today, she likes both of the dogs; they are all getting along great! She goes right into her kennel every morning to be fed. Holly must have a physically fenced in yard to keep her contained and safe, we just know that if she got away from her owners, she would never be caught. She does not like any type of fast action around her head and so her foster family had been walking her around the house with a leash on, otherwise she was hard to catch and ran in the other direction. However, this too has improved! She now comes to her name and she no longer has to have the leash when inside. She still can be tough to catch but usually she just lies down and as soon as you hook on her leash she's up wagging her tail to go outside. Older, understanding kids should be ok, smaller children will not be a fit. Holly is kennel broke having no accidents in her kennel at all. She goes to the patio door when she needs to go potty. Holly is an absolute and total snuggle bug, it's her favorite thing in the world! It's almost like she can't believe she found these wonderful and loving humans and she wants to be entwined in them all the time…very sweet. Holly is an easy keeper that's for sure, she's an older girl at about 7 years old, and so she likes her sleep. Holly is really coming around, she just needs some time and patience and the right loving family that will give her a chance. We are working on her weight, she's still very thin but she also doesn't eat more than she wants so her weight gain will be a slow process. We just want Holly to find a wonderful loving family that will give her time to adjust and just be the sweet, little love bug that she is! This pet’s adoption fee is on a sliding scale of $150 to $225. You decide the amount that is right for you to give. The fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm preventative, treatment for a variety of intestinal parasites and vaccinations. We have an all-volunteer staff, which means your entire fee goes towards helping homeless animals. A home visit is part of our adoption process, so we do not adopt outside of a 50-mile radius of Cedar Rapids. To complete our online adoption application, please click here.

Breed Disclosure: Due to the fact that most of our adoptable pets are strays, we cannot guarantee their breed. We list the pet’s breed as the one that best matches the physical appearance, temperament, and personality of the animal. The pet may also be listed as a mix when it’s actually a purebred.
